Welcome

My name is Simon Schatz. I'm a hobby aviation illustrator and historian. In 2002 my first aircraft profile, a Focke Wulf Fw 190 A-8, was published in an aviation book. Since then many more of my color profiles were published around the globe. Here I want to show you a small selection of these color profiles. Hope you enjoy the visit. I would appreciate getting comments and critiques regarding my artwork. Please use the comments buttons below the posts, or just write me an email: simon_der_flieger (at) yahoo (dot) de

Important note:

This website is dedicated to show planes flown by the German Luftwaffe during the Second World War. It's a source for historians, modellers and aviation enthusiasts. The planes at that time had swastikas on their tails. I just use them because of historical correctness. It's not my intention to glorify the Luftwaffe nor the Nazi regime it represented. I want to make clear that I strictly reject all Nazi ideals.

  2. How are you? I would like some information if possible for you to enlighten me I bought the book kagero, 37 - Last Hope of the Luftwaffe: Me 163, He 162, Me 262 (kalkomania). you're one of the authors. I have a question about the decals that came in the book, specifically the heinkel-162 aircraft, the squadron emblems 1 / JG1 came painted in yellow, but I've seen the same emblem in other books, drawings or paintings painted in red, I am in doubt as to which is correct. You would like to say that information relied to make the decals in yellow? I'm in doubt which is correct yellow or red. I thank you clarify my doubt, thank you and congratulations for your work.

  3. Hi Alexandre,

Thank you for the kind words!

According the newest research the emblem was yellow. Roger Gaemperle has written a longer article about that in his book "Captured Eagles". In the list of my published works you will find the bookcover and the link to the publisher. He has discivered a nice photograph were you see the difference between the red arrow and the yellow emblem. The profiles I finished some years ago for Classic Publications had red emblems, as I didn't have this infomation at this time.
    Cheers, Simon
